Following a post I made a couple of weeks ago entitled ‘Race Against the Setting Sun’, I thought I would follow up with another photo taken the same evening… When I say we were “racing” I meant literally, this was the goal. I really wanted to be here by sunset, and capture the evening rays. Alas, despite me putting my foot down and breaking several speed limits, by the time we reached this magical little spot the light had well and truly faded.
My good friend Will and I had spent the day venturing deep into Central Otago, reaching locations far and wide during this epic day of shooting. This was our last stop of the evening before heading back to Queenstown… And dispute missing the sunset, we were rewarded with this wonderful vista. I’m often suppressed by the results you can get just after the best of the evening light has faded, and this is one of those times. The longest exposure in this 19 bracket series was 5 seconds @ ISO320 — If you’re wondering why I occasionally take that many photos for a single HDR, I’ll explain that in a future blog post.
New Website Design
And about time! I’ve been hatching this one for a while, hence the delay in updates. I had to make sure everything worked properly before I flipped the switch. The most obvious aesthetically change is the removal of the sidebar, allowing the photos to appear front and center and with more room to breathe…
This new design is based off the new ‘PageLines Framework 2.0′ with a few personal changes I’ve made to the CSS. Perviously, I was using ‘Platform Pro’ from the same company, and it worked brilliantly. However, that design was a bit of a stop gap for me. I never felt it was complete, and I needed to give it some serious attention… So, in the end, I opted to upgrade the framework that the site is built on, and rebuild the design from scratch – taking into account several lessons I’ve learned when working on other sites such as our Print & Design business here in Queenstown.
Those who know me well enough would say that I’m a perfectionist when it comes to design & general aesthetics… And I’ll admit that I can piss people off with my constant drive for perfection. But I’m good at it… In the sense that I don’t ever stop short of what I consider to be acceptable – I don’t compromise. This tendency shows though my editing process, but more on that later – I’ve got more tutorials and such coming up in the not too distant future.
Thats it from me for now, I’ve got a lot more work to do with this new design… Subtle CSS changes and making sure I get all the plugins working, menus formatted, on and on it goes!

Nice photograph, probably my favorite out of all of yours. Though I do get a sense of the image is a tad tilted left heavy. I draw the horizon line at an angle through the image, is it the lens distortion doing that?
Either way My fav image, I like it. And great re-design too. Much better looking bro.
Seems a bit tilted but its dead level I assure you… Good old gyroscope haha. Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback!
